October 7th Mastering Precision MARPE — Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Invited international speaker for DentSleep International’s two-day
MARPE Masterclass
Dr. Grace Wu Simco was invited to join an international faculty of airway and orthodontic educators for the Mastering Precision MARPE course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her presentation, “Breathing Better Through Bite Correction: An Airway-Focused Open Bite Case Presentation,” demonstrated why treating an airway patient requires attention to both structure and function.
Structural correction—including skeletal expansion, bite correction, and improved craniofacial balance—can create a healthier foundation for breathing. However, lasting improvement also depends on functional rehabilitation, including nasal breathing, tongue posture, swallowing patterns, head and neck posture, and muscular balance. Correcting structure without retraining function may limit stability, while addressing function without adequate skeletal support may leave the underlying anatomical restriction unresolved.
Through a complex adult open-bite case, Dr. Grace highlighted the value of collaboration among orthodontists, myofunctional therapists, physical therapists, ENT, and endocrinologists when appropriate. Each discipline contributes a different piece of the clinical picture—from skeletal and dental relationships to orofacial function, body posture, and metabolic or hormonal factors that may influence airway health and treatment response.
Her presentation emphasized a central principle of airway-aware care: lasting change is most likely when structural correction and functional rehabilitation work together.

When Airway Patients Fall Between the Cracks
An interdisciplinary educational event co-hosted by Dr. Grace Simco and Dr. Bari Levine at Grace’s Braces in Levittown, Pennsylvania
The Interdisciplinary Sleep Study Club welcomed Lindsay Goodstein, MD, for a collaborative discussion on nasal-breathing solutions for complex patients with limited traditional treatment options. Dr. Goodstein explored how carefully selected, minimally invasive in-office nasal procedures may support patients who cannot tolerate CPAP, are not candidates for oral appliances, have persistent nasal obstruction, or have dentofacial limitations that restrict orthodontic expansion.
Bringing together dentists, physicians, ENTs, orthodontists, and allied healthcare professionals, the event encouraged interdisciplinary problem-solving and stronger collaboration across specialties. Hosted at Dr. Grace’s Levittown office, the program reflected her commitment to advancing airway education and helping providers find thoughtful solutions for patients who might otherwise fall between the cracks.

In this presentation, Dr. Grace showcased a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to the nonsurgical rehabilitation of a complex adult open bite through an airway-focused treatment philosophy. By integrating advanced CBCT imaging, detailed airway and skeletal evaluation, orthodontic biomechanics, physical therapy, and myofunctional therapy, she demonstrated how interdisciplinary care can improve occlusion, optimize breathing, enhance facial esthetics, and promote long-term functional stability—without orthognathic surgery.

Topic: Evidence-Based MARPE Design for Predictable Skeletal Expansion: Understanding the Bite Block Effect
Dr. Grace Wu Simco was invited as an Industry Leader Speaker at the 2026 American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session to present her innovative approach to MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) design.
Her presentation, "MARPE Design: Why This Design? How to Apply It in Clinical Practice for Maximized Esthetic and Airway Outcomes," shared a practical, evidence-based framework for appliance selection and customization. Drawing from extensive clinical experience, Dr. Simco demonstrated how thoughtful MARPE design can improve skeletal expansion, enhance facial esthetics, optimize nasal airway development, and increase treatment predictability.
Recognized for integrating airway-focused orthodontics, advanced 3D imaging, and individualized treatment planning, Dr. Simco continues to educate orthodontists on achieving stable, functional, and esthetic outcomes through modern skeletal expansion techniques.

Invited by the Mercer Dental Society to present a continuing-education program on airway-aware orthodontics in New Jersey
Topics: Release the Potential—Beyond Alignment
The Power of Airway-Aware Orthodontics in Growth and Aesthetics
Dr. Grace Wu Simco presented an evidence-based exploration of how airway-aware orthodontics can extend beyond dental alignment to support breathing, facial growth, function, and aesthetics. Drawing from clinical research, advanced imaging, and interdisciplinary care, she demonstrated how thoughtful evaluation of the airway and craniofacial structures can help clinicians recognize the broader needs of growing patients.
Hosted by the Mercer Dental Society, this continuing-education program brought dental professionals together for an evening of science, collaboration, and meaningful clinical discussion.
Watch the video for highlights from the event and Dr. Grace’s perspective on the expanding role of airway-aware orthodontics.
